Days = trading sessions the window stayed open. Nasdaq gain = close on the day the window opened → close on its last open day. Peak gain = best close inside the window. Off peak at close = how far the Nasdaq had fallen from that peak by the last open day (the giveback). Sold on signal = gain if sold at the close of the day the window closed. Worst dip = deepest close-to-close pullback inside the window. Outcome: Failed <10 days · Short 10–24 · Durable 25+ · Big winner 25+ days with a ≥15% peak gain. Index moves are a yardstick for each window, not trade results. Rule-based reconstruction of the WOO from the engine; small date differences vs. the hand-kept record are possible.

POWER TRENDS: 2 of 3 ON (2 under pressure) through 2026-10-26

Trend Health — daily candles over each active power trend learn ↓

Green / red daily candles · 21D EMA · 10D SMA · amber bands = UNDER PRESSURE days. Close under the 21D EMA → UNDER PRESSURE · 21D EMA crossing under the 50D SMA → OFF. Consecutive UNDER PRESSURE days (the U-streak) are the strongest historical warning sign: a power trend almost never turns OFF straight from ON — it goes under pressure first. Across each index's closed power trends 2000→present, the odds of turning OFF within 10 sessions climb from ~16% on a normal day to ~41% after 2 straight U days, ~53% after 3, and ~70%+ at 5 (SPX values; each badge below uses its own index's history). The Learning Center

One short chapter per signal — the rule, the parameters, and the full record since 2000.

0 · The Method

The M in CAN SLIM is Market Direction: ~3 of 4 stocks follow the general market, so read the market first — mechanically, from price and volume. This page grades market health as how many of the three indexes hold a Power Trend. The ladder (the window rungs are IXIC only):

IN CORRECTION < WOO OPEN < + PT UNDER PRESSURE < + POWER TREND ON

The cycle: distribution days warn of a top → the window closes (raise cash, build the watchlist) → a rally attempt starts → the FTD validates it → the Power Trend grades the new uptrend. Everything works toward getting each index back to POWER TREND ON.

1 · Distribution Days — the threat

A down day (≥0.2%) on volume at or above the prior session = institutions selling. 4–5 active in 25 sessions = warning, 6+ = topping — tops form while price still looks fine. Stalling days (heavy-volume churn with little price progress near recent highs) count in; days expire after 25 sessions or a +5% rally. 4+ distribution/stall days in 8 sessions clusters an index; ≥2 of 3 indexes clustered = DD CLUSTER.

Stalling (rare): HVWPPUheavy volume without further price progress up — 13-week high · change ≤ 0.1% · closing range 50–80% · volume above prior day AND 50-day average · low above prior day's low · prior day: 13-week high, closing range ≥ 50%, up ≥ 0.2% (or closed up with the session before it up ≥ 0.2%)

Through history

The lookback explorer plots the active DD count for any date since 2000 — try the weeks before the 2007 top, February 2020, or November 2021.

2 · MMTS — the trend traffic light

A GREEN/YELLOW/RED light from the 10D SMA + 21D EMA of the index close. GREEN = both lines rising and close ≥+1% above the 21D EMA (buys sanctioned); RED = the mirror image (defense); YELLOW = in between. The ±1% band is hysteresis — it kills whipsaw flips. MMTS red helps close the window; MMTS green is the "Green Day" re-open door.

3 · The Window of Opportunity — the outlook (Steve Swetz)

The WOO framework — its parameters, triggers, and re-open methodology — comes from CANSLIMer Steve Swetz; this page implements his rules verbatim. The window is tracked on the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) only, and only IXIC's FTDs feed it. WOO open = confirmed uptrend, buying sanctioned. It closes only when three damage readings agree on one day: MMTS red + >4% off the peak + a new 20-day low. It re-opens on a depth-tiered ladder — the deeper the correction, the more proof required.

Re-open matrix & parameters

Depth = intraday low vs the correction's measured peak; a correction that undercuts the prior correction's low inherits its peak (chained bears like 2022 keep measuring from the original top).

4 · Buy Day, Shakeout Day & Green Day — the other doors

A Green Day is MMTS green. A Buy Day proves recovery: up close over the last 3 days' highs off the correction low, upper-half close, above the 200D line, on strong volume (shallow corrections only; revocable after a failure). A Shakeout Buy Day proves a bear trap: price undercuts obvious support, flushes the weak holders, then closes back above the undercut bar's high — valid in any tier. Buy Day no longer opens the window for sessions on/after 2026-10-21; windows it opened before then keep their history.

Shakeout Buy DayUP close CLOSING above the high of the bar that undercut obvious support (≥8%-correction low, ≥25 sessions old, cleanly crossed) · ≥3 sessions after that bar · upper-half close · increased volume · any tier.

5 · The Follow-Through Day — the validator

"No new bull market has ever started without one." A rally attempt (up close off the low) proves nothing on Days 1–3; the proof is a ≥+1.2% advance on heavier volume on Day 4+. An undercut of the attempt's low resets the count. Honest caveat: ~1 in 3 FTDs fails — a next-day drop under the FTD's low is the classic early tell. The same fingerprint outside a correction is logged as "FTD-quality" — context only, never re-opens the window.

6 · The Power Trend — the goal

Webby's grade of the market's strongest state — the uptrends where every dip gets bought and most of a cycle's gains are made. ON = low above the 21D EMA for 10 straight sessions + 21D EMA above a rising 50D SMA for 5, sealed by an up close. Deliberately hard to kill: OFF only when the 21D EMA crosses under the 50D SMA; a close under the 21D EMA just grades it UNDER PRESSURE (dial back, don't abandon). The hero strip's "N of 3 ON" count is the market's true health grade.

Appendix — parameters & rule changelog

Nothing here is discretionary: every threshold lives in one parameter block, every assumption carries a numbered tag (A1–A15), every rule change is dated. All three indexes run the identical rule set; the Window of Opportunity is tracked on IXIC only (A15).

Educational and research display only — not investment advice, not a trading strategy, and not a solicitation. Definitions follow the operator's CAN SLIM discipline after William O'Neil's How to Make Money in Stocks and IBD conventions; the Window of Opportunity parameters and methodology are the work of CANSLIMer Steve Swetz, and the Power Trend is Mike Webster's ("Webby"). The identical rule set runs on all three co-equal index pillars — the S&P 500 (SPX), the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) — computed on completed daily sessions; history begins 2000-01-03. The Window of Opportunity is tracked on IXIC only; only IXIC's classic in-correction FTDs affect it or the graded statistics. This page is read-only: it displays pre-computed data and accepts no input that modifies anything.
